How to Finance Your Newborn Session

You may be anticipating the arrival of your precious newborn, and beginning to do research into professional newborn photography. Planning and preparing for your session can be so exciting! You likely already know how much you would value images of your baby years down the road. How to finance your newborn session with the photographer and collection of your choice might be a little concerning. Here are a few ideas on how you could finance your baby’s session.

Ask for Gift Certificates

Most friends, family, church family and co-workers are eager to celebrate you and your baby with a gift (think baby showers and registries). Friends and family closest to you, and/or those involved in planning your shower(s), will likely be asked what you need or would like for your baby. If a professional newborn session is a priority to you, be sure to let others know. While diapers and wipes are always appreciated, many people also love knowing their gifts will be treasured for many years to come.

If you feel this may be a good option, be sure to plan early. Most newborn photographers schedule newborn sessions between 5 and 14 days old; so it’s best to reserve your session (usually just the session fee is required) well before your baby arrives.

Set up a Payment Plan

Another option some photographers offer is a payment plan. You can begin saving even before your session if you already have an idea of your budget. You can also wait until you’ve seen your images and set up a payment plan then. Not every photographer will offer this service, so be sure to confirm that they do if you feel that is a good option for you.

Share the Cost

Grandparents are often thrilled to be part of the experience as well, and love being included during newborn sessions! Not everyone is able to capture the bond between a grandparent and their brand new grandbaby, so it’s really special when we can. It’s also a great way to share the cost.

If you feel this might be a good option for you, call to ensure your photographer allows family and extended family to be included in their newborn session.
